May 2010  - The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children's Inaugural Golf Classic is Monday, May 24, 2010 at Avery Ranch Golf Club in Austin, Texas. For sponsorship and other details click here.

May 25th is National Missing Children’s Day. In collaboration with the American Bank of Commerce, the Texas Regional Office of the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children encourages parents and guardians to Take 25 minutes to teach their children about safety and prevention. Go to www.take25.org to view 25 safety tips that can help save a child’s life.

Every year in America, an estimated 800,000 children are reported missing, more than 2,000 children each day. Of that number, 200,000 are abducted by family members and 58,000 are abducted by non-family members, for which the primary motive is sexual. Each year, 115 children are the victims of the most serious abductions; they are taken by non-family members and either murdered, ransomed or taken with the intent to keep.

Teaching children about safety works. In 83 percent of cases, children have escaped would-be abductors through their own actions.  Thirty-two percent actively resisted (yelling, kicking, pulling away, running away or attracting attention) while 51 percent recognized something was not right and responded by walking or running away.*

For tips on teaching your children about safety, just come by any Austin-area lobby of American Bank of Commerce between Tuesday, May 18 and Friday, May 21 to pick up your free Take 25 packet.

November  2009   Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA) of 2006
The UIGEA, signed into law in 2006, prohibits any person engaged in the business of betting or wagering (as defined in the Act) from knowingly accepting payments in connection with the participation of another person in unlawful internet gambling. As a customer of American Bank of Commerce, these restricted transactions are prohibited from being processed through your account or banking relationship with us.
